Looking out the window at the leaves starting to turn and feeling the sudden crispness in the air, I have sudden flashbacks to last winter and how quickly Mother Nature flicked the switch to let the snow fly and the temperatures drop.
For those of us in Relocation, it’s time to remind Transferees and Agents that vacant properties need to be protected over the winter months. Professional winterization by a licensed plumber is the only way to safely protect a home. Simply leaving the heat on will not prevent freezing pipes. Making the assumption that this can be prevented simply by leaving the heat on, could result in a freeze up. The furnace could malfunction or power could be lost, and pipes will freeze. It’s amazing how much damage can be incurred in a very short period of time. It’s also a good idea to arrange for snow removal from driveways and walkways for safe access.
So if you are vacating your home at this time of year, remember to winterize. That investment will be worth its weight in gold.
